The strength of our program comes from the meaningful partnerships we build with our families and community.

Through collaboration, we enrich the crucial preschool years, providing each child with a supportive network created through working together to enhance our students' experiences and foster their overall well-being.

Oceanport Preschool Curriculum

HighScope Curriculum Overview

The Oceanport Preschool Program proudly implements the HighScope Curriculum, a research-based, data-driven approach recognized for its effectiveness in early childhood education. At the core of HighScope is Active Participatory Learning, which emphasizes direct experiences and reflection to help children derive meaning from their activities.

Our teachers are trained to foster children’s natural curiosity and initiative, encouraging exploration and discovery. They create active learning environments where children make choices, engage in decision-making, and participate in hands-on experiences.

A key component of our daily routine is the Plan-Do-Review process. With guidance from their teachers, students plan their activities, carry them out during "work time"—a period of free choice, play, and creativity—and then reflect on their experiences. This structured routine promotes independence, critical thinking, and deeper learning.

While children are engaged in play, teachers observe, encourage, and assess each child’s development using HighScope’s Key Development Indicators (KDIs). These indicators reflect essential growth in cognitive, emotional, social, and physical domains. The KDIs align with the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations and are integral to COR, our assessment tool. Both HighScope and COR are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education as effective, impactful programs.
